Family-Friendly Budgeting: 5 Valuable Tips

Children grow up quickly, and so do the bills associated with them. If your budget feels extra tight lately, there are plenty of ways you can cut expenses without cutting family fun. Here are five tips to decrease your expenses and increase your cash flow.

1. Get rid of cable. You might think you need cable so your family can watch television shows together, but that’s a common misconception. Netflix, Hulu, and DVD/Blue Rays are all viable, cheaper options.

2. Dine out at affordable restaurants. Dining out is great, especially when you don’t feel like spending time in the kitchen. However, if you’re trying to save money, be smart about where you choose to go.

3. Decrease your cell phone bill. Cell phone bills are escalating super quickly. Shop around and find the best plan for you and your family. And remember, you don’t have to have the newest, fanciest phone on the market. If your phone works, hang in there until you absolutely need a new one.

4. Unplug your devices. It’s not unusual for people to keep their gadgets, like cable boxes and computers, plugged in at all times. These devices suck energy even when they’re turned off. If you unplug these items when they’re not in use, you’ll save money on your monthly bill.

5. Plan a staycation. Vacations are extremely fun but extremely expensive. Instead of spending thousands of a luxurious trip, plan an affordable staycation. From free museums to campgrounds, you can save hundreds of dollars and still have fun close to home.
